General Information:
I grew up on a dairy farm in Mooi River absolutely loving every moment I could get outside. I only, however, started paddling when I started at Michaelhouse in 1999. This was very tentative at first but in 2001 I did my first Dusi. As time progressed I slowly improved, but only really started being competitive in my final years at school. From then on I havn’t been able to stop. One highlight of my career was being awarded Most Improved Sportsman of the Year at UKZN along with my Full Blues; on top of this Martin Dreyer was the guest speaker and gave out the awards that evening.
Since leaving Michaelhouse I have started coaching their canoe club. It has been a most awesome privilege to coach all the boys and assist them in their paddling and development. Hopefully when I move back from Cape Town I will be able to continue coaching them.
I have gained so much from paddling whether it be racing, club administration or coaching. The lessons I have learnt have been invaluable, let alone the friends I have made and the places I have been. I hope that I will be able to meaningfully give back to canoeing in some way as it has given me.
